Nurgle Army Update: Two Dwarfs and a Unicorn

Allright! Got some painting done!

Turing my focus back to the Chaos Dwarfs for a while so here is two new ones: Origol The Horrible and The Master Of Madness from the Chaos Dwarf Renegades box.

Origol was a pure please to paint. It was one of those minis where everything just worked out with no hassles and he is one of my favorites in the army so far. I love this kind of simple miniatures: A head, a beard and armor (and well a Trident to). It's all you need.

Next out is a Citadel Runequest Unicorn Broo. Cool!

Did a few minor updates to my Chaos Sorcerer on Lizard Steed  from this post (link)

  2. Your tarnished metal effect on The Master Of Madness is fantastic Mr Don Hans! Could you please pass on your secret recipe?

Oh, and I reckon your mounted chaos sorcerer is not to shabby either..... that's Aussie slang for "very good" :)

Your painting style is nothing short of inspirational, keep'em coming!

    1. Thanks mate! Happy to - here's how I did the metal:

      1) First a solid layer was a mix of bronze, red and black
      2) Multiple very thin layers of mixes of bronze/red/black adding more red to each layer. I might have used orange in the end as well (not sure)
      3) Then went to pure greens and painted in and around the recesses making the tone lighter each time.
      4) Did some edge highlight with pure gold.

I guess the key thing is the mixing of metal and non metal color and building up with thin layers

      Cheers/Hans

    2. Thanks Hans,

I'll definitely be trying out your technique when next I lift my brush to mini.

      Cheers.

  4. I love the colours on your minis. About how long does it take you to paint each one?

    1. Thanks Simon!

It varies a lot and rarely paint a mini in one go so difficult to say. Origol above I painted Saturday evening (excluding the prepp, primer and building the base which was done previously). This is quicker than normal though. Other minis like my Giant Snail took a lot longer. Some of the C38 Beastman was quite challenging and took longer as well.

Maybe in average about 4 hours effective time...I'm more or less just guessing :)

  6. The marine feel you gave to Origol really fits the model and adds a real depth to it (no pun).
The unicorn manages to feel dark even with the use of bright white and that's a real success !
The lwizard is also really good, now we just need to see the lord!

    1. Thanks Asslessman!

Yor are very right about the marine look. Funny thing is I didn't think of this at all when painting it - just a coinsidence :) ... real depth LOL

For the unicorn that was the intension. I gave it a light color to empahsize the unicorness and added a few different color to make it look a bit evil.

Unfortunately not much progress on the general yet.

  11. These are all spectacular, but I have to say that your Chaos Dwarf lord absolutely floored me. Both the tarnish effect on the armor and the inimitable Don Hans shield treatment are top notch. Really, really fantastic job.

    1. Thanks VeronaKid - must say I'm happy with both the armor and shield of the this guy. Tried some new tricks when doing the armor that turned our better than expected.
