Nurgle Army Update: Cavalry Unit Finished!

Hello again!

Been a while. Fell of the grid for a while. Been painting a bit though since last time and in particular finished the Cavalry Unit.

First of all I finished the Leader. Building it was done over 2 years ago (here and here). Went for a quite colorful paint-job and quite a lot of contrasts to make it stand out from the other once.

Also added a standard bearer using one of the already finished members (here). (Photo slightly messed up)

Well and here is the complete unit with a movement tray:

I'll try to keep the next post not to distant. Until then - thanks for stopping by and love to hear what you think of this stuff!

Nurgle Army Update!

2 post within 4 days - oyeah!

Spent much of the Eastern holidays painting miniatures so got quite a lot done.

First of is an update to one of the cavalry minis. It was a quite poor and lazy conversion that I didn't like (original here). Just a claw attached to the side of the rider.

The new conversion work a lot better with a bunch of tentacles coming out of his lower back (ASS) and following his flowing mantle. Also kept the painting is a similar light pastel look.

The components are an Undead Cavalry horse and a solid base C33 Mounted Adventurer Rider (the Rogue) and tentacles from the plastic Chaos spawn kit (all Citadel).

Nurgle Army / Warband: Converted Cavarly

Next of is a two WIPs.

To the left is a C28 Giant. Ninefingers with Huge Axe and Pinhead head and to the right a Minotaur Lord with its base in the middle. This last one will be the leader of one of the Beastmen units.

Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for stopping by!

A lot of WIPs

Nothing finished in the past month but few WIP for the nurgle army:

Skeletons: A start for a unit of skeletons. Might be for an undead army/warband or for a unit of Plague Skeletons. Quite keen on the second option.

A start for a unit of skeletons

Cavalry: With the build of the cavalry leader finished I'm working on finishing the whole unit. A movement tray and a few upgrades:

Cavalry unit movement tray

This is the cavalry mini who is getting a makeover. I'm chaning the mutation of the rider. It had previously a very ugly claw that didn't work at all (including its color). Decided therefore for a "tentacle cape". I thinkg this works well with the composition and especialy with the flying cape of the rider.

This is the original: As you can see I have also repainted the base border.

Army General: Started aslo with the army General: Hieronymus the Pious. An early WIP photo. So far attached the different parts for the general. The big thing will be to build a cool saddle.

New beast(men) unit: Selected a few minis for a new beast(men) unit.

Front row, left to right:

  • Asgard D3 Dragon Lizard
  • Citadel C38 Beastman Fox Priest
  • Citadel Runequest Demon Rult
  • Citadel Weird Fantasy WF16 Midlands Troll (Bryan Ansell)
  • Citadel Runequest Broo Commander
  • Asgard Creatures of Chaos CC7 Four Fang

Back row, left to right:

  • Not sure - Asgard I thinkg
  • Asgard Creatures of Chaos CC6 Trunkhand Tuskoid
  • Citadel C22 Creatures Chaos Demon
  • Citadel Fiend Factory FF4-1 Crabman
Nice group of minis, don't you say?

Asgard Creatures of Chaos CC7 Four Fang.
A favorite mini of mine

Minotaur Lord: Have also started painting the Minotaur Lord that will be the leader of the first unit of beastmen. A lot of work left but happy with the start.

Finished Building Nurgle Cavalry Leader

Finally finished the build of the Cavalry leader.

Went for a much more Chaos and Nurgle look to it compared to the rest of the unit. The horse is a Skeleton Horse (obviously) with lots of bits added to it. The rider started with a plastic zombie torso, knight legs, great unclean one right arm, plague bearer left arm, a random head and a visor. The exposed spine is from a plastic skeleton horse that I cut up in pieces. The rest is my own sculpt. (The rider is tilting a bit down - the right arm should actually point more directly forward)

Here is a WIP pic of a banner. It will be in the beastman unit or the army banner, we'll see. It's just the wings from the DRAG4 Great Fire Dragon (I only have the wings...luckily).

W.I.P's Minotaur Lord and Cavalry Leader

Currently doing some modelling, haven't done that in a while.

First one is a Minotaur Lord who will be the leader of my beast(men) unit. Will also serve as possible warband leader if the dice allows it. Not much modelling on the Minotaur except fixing the joins, especially the head/body as their is a lot of fur going on there which needed some attention. Added a few Nurglings to the base.

Love this Minotaur, very dynamic and powerful and very chaotic!

Second one is my leader for the cavalry unit which has standing on my desk for much too long time. This is a lot of modelling and conversions and bitz.

Nurgle Warband Update: Cavalry nr. 6

(23/9: Updated the pics of the Dwarf and tried a black background.)

Another undead cavalry horse but this time with a dwarf. The horse was very tiny and looked more like a pony - a dwarf seemed therefore like the right choice. I choose Lastro Lupintal from the Dwarf Lords of Legend box as he has a Oriental/Araby look which I really liked.

The horse received some conversions on its back: some skulls on a rope, a couple of chains, a bit of canvas, a shield and some sort of banner/decoration stolen from a temple dog.

Lastro got his right hand re-positioned and got a new sword. He had a good starting pose for a rider but quite a lot of work went into making him fit the pony.

For the paint job I decided on using few colors and try to achieve an "eerie" look. Especially as Lastro had no mutations or other stuff to make him look very chaotic. (I don't think the shield works so considering replacing it or add some more paint - need to make it more structured)

The final mini for this unit, cavalry nr 7 is in the making. He will be the unit leader - here a WIP shot of him (he might receive a banner attached to the horse):

Nurgle Cavalry
A new group shot as well. I was a bit concerned with the dwarf as he did not have a dynamic pose as the others have and that it would disturb the overall appearance. I tried to arrange this unit in different ways and concluded having the dwarf close to the middle solved this.

Nurgle Warband Update: Cavalry nr. 5

An undead horse with a new tail (the old one was basically just a lump of metal) with a converted undead rider. The rider just received a new helmet and head made out of Pro-create.

The background (short version) for this rider is an old Bretonnian knight who has fought long and hard in the chaos wasteland. The remains of a caparison still attached to his horse. This is one of the reasons as well I kept the riders clothing in the same green.

Have five riders now but at least two more will be added with would leave me at seven - the (un)holy number of Nurgle. Then I think I'll finish the other units to have a first gameable version ready for this army...and yes, the General as well.

(23/9: Updated the pics with a black background - much better IMO)

Nurgle Warband Update: Cavalry nr. 4

This time a combination of an Undead Cavalry horse and a solid base C33 Mounted Adventurer Rider (the Rogue). If you look at my previous post you'll notice I just switched the rider and horse between these two sets.

The rider and horse are complete standard with the exception of the Rider's claw. The positioning of this hands made it impossible to add a weapon and I didn't wan't do afflict any damage on the mini as I really like it. So I just added a claw. Not the best conversion ever but I think it did the job.

Really happy with the look on this one and it's one of my favorites in the warband/army so far. Hope you like it too.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you think.

Nurgle Warband Update: Cavalry nr. 3

A new addition to the cavalry unit.

This time a combination of an Undead Cavalry rider and a solid base C33 Mounted Adventurer horse (the Rogue). I kept the Rogue rider and will put him on a Skeleton horse.

I tried a new approach to painting the skeleton and must say I'm quite happy with the result.

Nurgle Warband Update: Cavalry

The cavalry unit has increased in size with 100% - two riders!!!

The latest one is a Feudal Cavalry horse with a Melnibonean Cavalry rider. Seems very appropriate with Melnibonean as they were the original Chaos worshippers.

Here with his brother in arms.
