Starting out with these beastmen I really liked them. Now, I am in love with them. I put in an extra effort on them as well. Especially on the Crabman - I just couldn't stop myself.
Some of them was a bit difficult to get a good result on. E.g. the fur of the Slothman was worn a bit flat. The highlights emphasized this as well. I solved this by after the final highlights do a few thin layers of shading/glazing over the highlights. This hid most of the furs flatness.
Did the base border in bone instead of grey. Not the best for the overall army look. Worked a lot better on these cuties though. Might do the movement tray in grey. I have kept all the solid bases on the minis and tried to integrate them in the base.

T-t-t-t-that's all folks!
Excellent stuff I have Crabman waiting to be painted when I get round to my Beastmen and I love what you've done with yours.
ReplyDeleteI've always found that Ponyboy mini strangely disturbing considering how daft it is - your brushwork on his face certainly emphasises its creepiness. Good work!
Thanks Thantsants! I blended to color to almost back around the mouth of "Ponyboy" - this helped giving him a more disturbing look. /Hans
DeleteVery good idea, using RoC design page look really Good.
ReplyDeleteAnd good paint job, as always ;)
Thanks Nico! /Hans
DeleteBetter and better! Those are some very peculiar sculpts and therefore perfect fodder for your brush.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gareth! Really drawn toward their strangeness and so enjoyable to paint. /Hans
DeleteMan, I have to say these are absolutelly brilliant. I've had a look on ebay to find some and I almost cried but you've made the best of them. The bone base side is really working great. I don't think that should be too much of a problem since the whole unit will be based the same way. I've only realised recently how base side colour is important to enhance the global look. Can't say I have a favourite in the unit, they all look great, can't wait to see the other 5.
ReplyDeleteThanks Asslessman!
DeleteMost of them on eBay seems to be buy it now for very steep prices. I have been patient and only bought at auctions. They're still expensive, especially the Runequest onces seems to be very popular.
I tried one base with grey border and it didn't work at all - I'm thinking doing the whole army in bone...well, we'll see about that.
Number 5 is Ostrichman and doing him in some real Ostrich inspired colors. Might be finished end of next week.
/Hans
Brilliant! Love that you're going with the ultra-creepy original beastmen. And amazing painting. Wish I could paint like that!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Mouse!
DeleteC38 Beastmen = The original and best :)
/Hans
What a lovely looking unit! Great choice of colours, and it's a real treat to see them all together. Sadly I only have the female (beastwoman?) with bird claws and severed head myself. I must get round to doing something with her sometime!
ReplyDeleteThanks Axiom! Your "beastwoman" is really cool - unfortuenetly not in my collection. Trying to get most of them but it's expensive and takes long time for them to show up / Hans
DeleteI love your beastmen , your paint job really make them look disturbing .
